I came across a story in the
Daily Mail today that you've just got to see to believe: a group of knitters from around the world has been working on a
knit house complete with knit furniture, a knit stove, even a knit "Home Sweet Home" sampler above the door.
The 140-square-foot home is made entirely of knitting, except for the door and windows (it's also supported by a metal frame). The house was the brainchild of knitter Alison Murray, who has before knit a giant Christmas tree.
The walls of the home are made of a mosaic of wool squares in shades of brown, reminiscent of a gingerbread house. When the project is on display beginning June 28 at the Atlantic Village shopping complex in Bideford, north Devon, it will be surrounded by a knit garden, complete with flowers and 12-foot-tall trees.
The project isn't just for fun, though, it's also a fundraiser for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and North Devon Hospice. The project has already raised 3,000 pounds from participating knitters, and Murray hopes to take the project on the road--and perhaps find a permanent place to display it--to raise even more money.
